An ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Registered Nurse (RN) position is available in the California region. This role involves providing specialized care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, with a focus on trauma, neuro-strokes, head injuries, ventriculostomies, and ICP monitoring. The position requires someone prepared to work nights and manage critically ill patients while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with every other weekend. Schedules are made approximately 6 weeks in advance; travelers are prioritized for scheduling adjustments.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, COVID vaccination, NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), minimum 2 years of ICU experience, and ability to work very hard in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification, previous travel experience.
  • Additional Information: Candidates must have experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies. Nurses are required to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation. The unit has a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, with 1 unit tech for all 30 beds. An intensivist is available 24/7, and equipment such as Hamilton vents, Cpap, and BiPap are in use. RNs interpret GE telemetry strips, which are run by a unit secretary. The hospital is patient-focused, interventional radiology is prominent, and the environment is highly collaborative. The unit is fast-paced and demanding, requiring adaptability, teamwork, and proactive communication.
  • Additional Physical & Operational Notes: The position involves working very hard, being open to asking questions, and maintaining a positive working relationship with team members. The facility is traveler-friendly, with a one-day orientation and the possibility for additional training if necessary.
