Description

Job Summary:
The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse position is located in Kearney, Nebraska. This role involves providing specialized care in a 33-bed ICU environment, managing adult trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress patients. The nurse will deliver patient-focused care, including titrating cardiac drips and managing ventilators, within a fast-paced, acute care setting.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Start Date: 08/31/2026
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS are required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience.
  • Qualifications: Valid nursing license, must have a minimum of 2 years' experience, and relevant certifications.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit notes include a radius rule of 50 miles and a drivers license requirement to enforce geographic eligibility.
    • Unit maintains a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adults.
    • Common diagnoses involve trauma, cardiac cases, substance abuse, sepsis, vascular, and respiratory issues.
    • RNs are required to titrate various drips, including cardiac, insulin, and sedation.
    • Nurse aides and healthcare support technicians assist on the floor based on census volume.
    • Telemetry monitoring with GE brand monitors is a critical part of duties.
    • Floating to PCU or Medical-Surgical units may be required; patient ratios are typically 1:4 or 1:5.
    • Self-scheduling is available for core staff, with restrictions on block schedules and duos sharing schedules.
    • Holidays: Minimum of two within the contract period; every other weekend requirement.
    • One shift of unit-specific orientation is provided; additional RTO requests beyond seven days are generally not approved.
    • The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment.
    • Charting system: EPIC.
