Description

Job Summary:
Gastroenterology Laboratory (GI LAB) Nurse in Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves providing endoscopy nursing care within a specialized unit that supports outpatient and inpatient procedures, including electroconvulsive therapy. The position requires delivering safe, efficient patient care during scheduled shifts, including call coverage and floating between responsibilities as needed.

Job Details:

  • Shift Hours: 10-hour days, typically starting at 6:30 am, with a schedule of Monday through Friday and weekends covered by call rotation.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday; weekends covered by call rotation.
  • Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Endoscopy RN; BLS (American Heart Association) and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred; must pass ECG competency exam on Day 1 (pass/fail, one attempt); strong IV skills required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) procedures.
  • Additional Information: The unit primarily performs outpatient procedures, with an average of approximately 25 procedures daily. Nurses assist with pre-operative, intra-operative (including timeout and documentation), and post-operative processes. EMR systems used are EPIC and Provation. The facility provides maroon scrubs on-site. First to float between ECT and Endoscopy assignments, with on-call responsibilities including weekday call starting at the end of scheduled shifts, weekend and holiday call blocks, and potential floating duties.
