Description

Job Summary:
Emergency Room Nurse in Alexandria, Virginia. This position involves providing high-quality nursing care in a busy, mixed adult and pediatric emergency department. The role requires managing a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels in a 24-hour care setting, with responsibilities including implementing clinical protocols, managing vents and high-flow oxygen, and administering routine medications.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts with a minimum of 36 hours per week. The schedule includes shifts from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 1:00 am, with a weekend rotation of six shifts in six weeks.
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Two or more years of experience in an emergency room setting involving both adult and pediatric patient populations. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensing in Virginia.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in managing high-acuity patients, pediatric patient care experience, and familiarity with mixed adult and pediatric emergency care.
  • Additional Information: The ER does not have a separate pediatric area; pediatric patients are seen in all zones. The RN manages ventilators and high-flow oxygen therapy, with training provided. Staffing ratios are typically 4:1 but can stretch to 5:1 during peak census. The department handles diagnoses such as STEMI, stroke, sepsis, sprains, sutures, and other high-acuity conditions. This position requires Epic electronic medical record system access, with immediate start possible.
