Description
Job Summary:
The healthcare organization is seeking a Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week contract position at a clinical facility in Newburgh, Indiana. The role involves providing specialized care within a step down unit, focusing on cardiac and neuro patients. The candidate will be responsible for performing comprehensive assessments, interpreting 12-lead EKGs, initiating and titrating drips, and conducting neuro assessments, including NIHSS and dysphagia screening. The position requires resilience, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic clinical environment.
Job Details:
- Location: Newburgh, Indiana
- Shift: 12-hour days, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Schedule: 36 hours guaranteed per week; overtime may be required after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- Start Date: 08/10/2026
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Experience Required: 2 years of RN experience, including 1 full year of step down experience, travel assignment experience, and trauma level II experience
- Certifications: Must hold a current active compact license; AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIHSS certifications must be attached upon submittal
- Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
- Patient Population: Cardiac (post-cath stents/interventions, pacers), CIWA/BH, Sepsis, DKA, CVA, CPAP, feeding tubes, crani POD 2, GI bleeds, hypothermic/bear hugger
- Skillset: REQUIRED - Telemetry/12-lead EKG interpretation (test required for travelers), initiation and titration of drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, Insulin, etc.), post-surgical assessment, NIHSS/neuro assessments, dysphagia screen; PREFERRED - stable home vents, PleurX drain/pericardial drains, lumber drains, VP shunts, Narcan drips, strong assessment, and critical thinking skills
- Float Requirements: First to float within skill set to nearby campuses, with a 2-hour notice; cross-campus float may occur, primarily within same campus during mid-shift
- Weekend/Holiday: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday
- Vaccination: COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
- Interview Days: Monday to Friday, MSP interview type
- Bed Count: 16 beds with varying nurse-patient ratios by shift
