Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a qualified registered nurse (RN) for a Step Down Unit position in West Virginia. The role involves providing specialized patient care in a higher acuity telemetry and step down setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex patients, including cardiac and post-procedural cases, with a focus on safety and clinical excellence.
Job Details:

- Shift Schedule: 12-hour shifts, days only, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Start Date: 08/03/2026
- Required Qualifications: BLS certification (American Heart Association); minimum of 2 years of RN experience, valid nursing license; no specific experience required beyond minimum.
- Unit Notes: The unit staff maintains a 1:4 patient nurse ratio, managing cardiac patients, post-cath, AMI, post-operation lung surgeries, respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-PCI patients.
- Patient Population: Cardiac patients with higher acuity than typical telemetry units, including post-OP lung surgeries, respiratory failure, and various cardiac conditions.
- Skills & Experience: Must be able to titrate drips such as heparin, insulin, nitro, dobutamine, dopamine, and other titratable medications. Experience with cardiac telemetry, ventilator management (CPAP & BiPAP managed by RTs), and interpreting telemetry strips is required.
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: 24/7 charge nurse available; day shifts do not take patients, night shifts do.
- Assistive Personnel: CNA staff aim for a ratio of 1:9; typically work in team nursing with 1 RN and 1 CNA for 6-7 patients.
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP and BiPAP only, managed by RTs.
- Telemetry: Phillips monitors; RNs must read and interpret strips; monitor techs are present on the unit.
- Schedule & Staffing: 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM. Weekend shifts are every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday). Holiday shifts are incorporated into staffing rotation.
- Floating: Staff may float to other medical-surgical or telemetry units as needed; ratios are capped at 1:4 when floating.
- Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs.
- Orientation: New travelers receive orientation shifts with a preceptor.
- Additional Notes: The unit utilizes EPIC charting system. Telemetry and respiratory management are integral parts of patient care.
