Description
Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves delivering high-quality patient care by conducting assessments, developing individualized care plans, and ensuring patient safety. The RN will supervise ancillary staff, collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, and participate in patient education and discharge planning.
Job Details:
- Perform a nursing assessment on all patients within 8 hours of admission, forming the basis of an individualized care plan.
- Provide patient information and status updates promptly for team conferences and re-evaluations.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the medical record in accordance with policy.
- Participate in patient rehabilitation activities and directly care for patients using the nursing processassessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating carewhile focusing on patient and family education.
- Initiate discharge planning from the day of admission and begin patient teaching in preparation for discharge.
- Communicate pertinent information regarding patient status changes to support continuity of care and patient safety, including coordination with attending physicians and charge nurses.
- Seek consultation from senior nursing staff for complex clinical decisions.
- Supervise, train, and direct ancillary nursing personnel by employing problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ensure personal and environmental safety in accordance with hospital and nursing policies.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through team involvement, calm direction, and reassurance to staff, patients, and families.
- Maintain communication with management regarding supplies, equipment, and clinical training needs.
- Provide care in a cost-effective manner while promoting quality outcomes, including monitoring supplies and charges.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities after orientation as requested.
- Pursue professional development through continuing education and self-study.
- Prioritize activities effectively to meet patient needs with staff.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification prior to first shift
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification prior to first shift (if applicable)
- Minimum of two (2) years bedside clinical experience
- Education equivalent to a nursing license in the state of Virginia
- Ability to work initial shift hours of 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week starting 08/03/2026
