Description

Job Summary:
Operating Room Open Heart Nurse Fort Wayne, Indiana. This position involves serving as a surgical assistant during cardiovascular procedures, supporting surgeons in tasks such as tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, and incision closure. The role requires active participation in room turnover and the ability to cannulate for bypass procedures. The assignment is a 13-week contract with day shifts, and candidates must meet specific certification and experience requirements.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Days, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 4x10 hour shifts, holidays and call required, with an option for block scheduling
  • Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Schedule: Days only, 10 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid BLS certification, First Assist certification, and one of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or RN license; candidates without CST certification must demonstrate prior employment practicing surgical technology before July 1, 2009, or hold the Certified Surgical Assistant certification; minimum of 2 years of experience in operating room or open heart surgery
  • Preferred Qualifications: Strong cardiac surgery skills, ability to suture as directed by surgeons, experience cannulating on bypass, and ability to assist with room turnover in a surgical setting
  • Scope of Role: Acting as the primary surgical assistant during cardiovascular surgeries, assisting with tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, closure, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating surgeon needs throughout procedures. Candidate must be able to cannulate during bypass phases.
  • Additional Information: Must be able to pass pass cannulation suture, be able to float to the main operating room if needed, and be prepared to work in a hospital-issued scrubs environment.
