Description
Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor Nurse in Hastings, Nebraska. This position involves providing patient care in a fast-paced acute care setting, focusing on individuals with conditions such as dementia, post-surgical recovery, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID-19. The role requires adaptability in a 30-bed unit with primarily private rooms, working night shifts on an every-other weekend basis.
Job Details:
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: BLS certification; minimum of 2 years of clinical experience; license to submit; location in Nebraska.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with chest tubes, pain management, TPN, CBI, wounds; charge nurse experience is a plus but not mandatory.
- Additional Information:
- Unit features 30 private beds with an average census of 20 patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio varies between 1:4 and 1:6.
- Common diagnoses include dementia, post-surgical cases, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID-19.
- Experience with chest tubes and wound care is preferred, as well as pain management and TPN.
- Charge nurse duties may be assigned to experienced nurses; float to PCU for overflow or low-acuity patients is possible.
- Staffing includes 2-3 nurse aides, and RT equipment such as CPAP is available.
- Telemetry is present on the floor; monitor techs read monitors.
- The orientation includes two days of nursing department training and one day on the unit.
- No call or standby requirements; volunteers may cancel scheduled shifts.
- Dress code: Any solid color, no patterns or designs.
- The assignment begins on 08/31/2026, with flexible scheduling to accommodate block shifts and gaps filling.
