Description

Job Summary:
Step Down Healthcare Professional in Evansville, Indiana. This position involves working on a dedicated Step Down unit with a focus on post-procedure cardiac and neuro patients. The role requires strong clinical assessment, critical thinking skills, and experience with complex patient populations, including STEMI/NSTEMI, neuro assessments, and sepsis management. The healthcare provider will deliver high-quality patient care in a 19-bed blended unit, with a primary focus on the designated Step Down beds during day shifts.

Job Details:

  • Location: Evansville, Indiana
  • Shift: 12-hour days, 36 hours per week
  • Start Date: 08/24/2026
  • Required Qualifications: Current active compact license, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), two or more years of solid experience in a Step Down unit with at least one travel contract, or five years of solid experience in a Step Down unit if no travel experience. Recent Electronic Medical Record (EPIC) charting experience required (will be required to do a checkoff class).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience interpreting tele/12-lead EKGs, post-heart catheterization care, initiating/titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Insulin, Heparin), neuro assessments, sepsis care, chest tube management, PIV insertion, and strong assessment skills.
  • Float: Float to Deaconess Newburgh (IN) campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson (KY) campus; first within skillset, with a two-hour notice for cross-campus float. Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible, cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely.
  • On Call/Call Back: Not required
  • Weekend/Holiday: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday
  • Additional Information: The unit comprises 19 beds, including 8 designated Step Down beds and 11 Medical/Surgical/T (Telemetry) beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio for days is approximately 1:5-6. The role may involve precepting students and new hires, requiring adaptability and mentorship. The unit is a teaching hospital environment. No Covid-19 vaccination requirement at this time.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs, no competing health system or agency logos.
