Description

Job Summary:
The ICU Neuro (Intensive Care Unit Neurological) registered nurse position is located in Madison, Wisconsin. This role involves providing specialized critical care for adult patients with neurological conditions on an 18-bed unit that is a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center. The nurse will deliver complex interventions and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 48 hours per week, starting on 08/31/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Wisconsin (WI) or compact registered nurse (RN) license, ACLS, BLS certifications, minimum of 2 years of recent inpatient RN experience within the last 3 years in acute care, with experience in ICU critical care, neuroscience, or neurotrauma settings.
  • Skills: Managing arterial lines, port access, chest tube management, blood product administration, ventilator management, ICP monitoring, external ventricular drain (EVD) care, neuro-specific procedures, telemetry interpretation, neuro patient management, and emergency medication administration. Must have Basic Arrhythmia experience and pass telemetry skill test prior to start.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Neurosurgery experience, trauma level II experience, experience with care of neuro patients including stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, post-neurosurgery management, and familiarity with electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).
  • Additional Information: The unit supports interdisciplinary care including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, and social services. The nurse will serve critically ill adult patients with complex neuro diagnoses such as stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injury. The role requires strong critical thinking skills, ability to work with the neuro patient population, and flexibility to float as needed. Traveler must pass a telemetry exam in two attempts, with strict passing criteria, prior to start. Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted.
