Description

Job Summary:
This step down unit nurse position is located in the Omaha area. The role involves providing intermediate care for patients recovering from surgical procedures and cardiac-related diagnoses. The nurse will support a 18-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours. The focus is on patients requiring intermediate care, including those with cardiac and vascular diagnoses, supporting thoracic programs, electrophysiology, cath lab, and structural heart procedures. The position requires at least two years of relevant experience.

Job Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts, scheduled from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Active license to practice nursing, CPR (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, minimum of 2 years of experience in step down or similar unit, and ability to work nights.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cardiac and vascular patient populations, familiarity with tele monitoring and interpretation of strips, and experience managing titratable blood pressure medications such as amiodarone, nitro, nicardipine, epinephrine, and diltiazem.
  • Duties: Administer and troubleshoot BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula. Read and interpret tele monitors, participate in unit-specific orientation of 1-2 shifts, and provide patient care support including a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 during regular hours.
  • Schedule and Floating: The position involves every other weekend, with optional float to all levels of acuity, including lower levels. No block or self-scheduling. The manager handles scheduling.
  • Additional Notes: Candidates must adhere to the radius rule of 50 miles and cannot be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any organization affiliated with the healthcare provider, including CHI and Dignity. Artificial nails are prohibited, and candidates will be required to pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%. RTO requests of 7 days or less are accepted upfront; additional RTO requests will not be approved.
