Description

Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Burn Specialty Nurse position available in Madison, Wisconsin. This role involves providing advanced patient care within a Level One Trauma Center and Wisconsin's only ACS-verified Adult and Pediatric Burn Center. The nurse will work on an 11-bed acuity adaptable unit, delivering compassionate care to diverse patient populations, including adult and pediatric burn and complex wound cases.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS certification; Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact RN license; at least 2 years of recent inpatient acute care experience in the specialty area
  • Experience: Inpatient RN travelers must have two years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specified specialty
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS*
  • Skills: Accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, central line care/management, CVP monitoring, managing complex wounds/burns, airway management, infection prevention, arterial blood gas interpretation, dysrhythmia interpretation, PPE and isolation precautions, IV insulin protocols, management of multisystem organ failure, procedural sedation, pulmonary artery line management, ventilator management, and more
  • Patient Age Groups: Neonates, adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, geriatrics
  • Daily Census: 10.55 patients
  • Additional Unit Information: Support from IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary
  • Special Procedures/Unit Details: Practice as part of a multidisciplinary team on an acuity adaptable unit, managing burn patients and complex wounds in a critical care setting without expected burn care responsibilities; flexibility to float as needed
  • Patient Diagnoses: Burn injuries, wounds, critical care cases involving off-service ICU and IMC patients
  • Special Equipment: ICU experience required; successful passing of Telemetry test prior to start; candidates must meet strict testing criteria with two attempts for adult and pediatric electrocardiogram interpretation exams
  • Location: 600 Highland Ave, Madison, WI 53792
  • Parking: Permit required through UW Transportation for onsite parking; other transportation options available
