Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) specialty position is located in a Level I Trauma Center within a short-term acute care facility. The role involves supporting a high-acuity inpatient unit, recovering diverse surgical patients including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, and trauma cases. The nurse will work nights, providing critical care postoperatively in a fast-paced environment that requires experience with invasive monitoring, artificial airways, and transfusions.

Job Details:

• Location: 1 BARNES JEWISH HOSPITAL PLZ, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63110
• Schedule: Nights, 10 hours shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: BLS, ACLS certifications; experience with Epic charting system; critical care experience preferred; 2 years of inpatient PACU experience; MO license or compact license required; experience working in a Level I Trauma Center preferred; ability to work within scope in PACU or Pre-Operative units.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and recovery from general anesthesia.
• Float: Float within service line, including ICU, main PACU, PCU, and ER Holding.
• Additional Information: Night shift nurses will be responsible for pre-operative patient assessment and preparation for first cases starting early in the morning. The unit operates 24/7 with a focus on managing high-acuity postoperative patients, many of whom require invasive monitoring, transfusions, and ventilatory support. This position demands expertise in managing adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations in a busy trauma center with a diverse surgical caseload.
