Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Orthopedic Floor Registered Nurse (RN) in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing patient care in a busy acute care setting focused on orthopedic and medical surgical patients. Candidates will be responsible for managing a variety of conditions including joint replacements, fractures, and other common diagnoses, while ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to department policies.
Job Details:
- Shift: 12-hour days from 08/31/2026, with scheduled hours totaling a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association; minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar medical-surgical or orthopedic setting. Valid drivers license; nursing licensure to submit.
- Specialty: Medical Surgical Orthopedic Floor.
- Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 on the orthopedic/medical surgical unit.
- Patient Population: Patients with joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive.
- Procedures & Duties: Titration of drips such as Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine; use of PCA pumps; reading tele monitor strips; hourly rounding; ensuring responsiveness.
- Staffing & Operations: Charge nurse on each shift who may also take assignments; nurse aides/patient care techs with ratios of 1:10-20; tele techs interpret monitoring strips, with nurses maintaining some tele awareness.
- Orientation: Two days of unit-specific training.
- Attire: Navy blue scrubs.
- Float Policy: Yes, to other medical surgical areas with MedSurg patients awaiting beds.
- Additional Requirements: RTO must be requested upfront; no additional RTO will be approved after submission. Floating may be required. The unit emphasizes teamwork, attendance, compassion, and cultural sensitivity, serving patients of diverse backgrounds including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese.
- Other Notes: Mechanical lifts in select rooms; focus on hourly rounding. The facility uses EPIC charting system; no BSN required.
