Job Summary
Psychologist specializing in Pediatric Psychology is needed at a behavioral health facility located in Bangor, Maine. The position involves providing comprehensive psychiatric care to pediatric and adult patients in an inpatient setting. The role requires flexibility to float between pediatric and adult units as needed, with an emphasis on de-escalation and behavioral health management.

Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift
  • Schedule: The assignment will begin on 09/14/2026. Support on the unit includes a 48-hour minimum weekly schedule, with weekend rotations every other weekend. Modified self-scheduling will be implemented for shifts, with predetermined weekend rotations.
  • Required Qualifications: One year of Behavioral Health nursing experience, pediatric behavioral health experience preferred; obtained certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS); valid Maine State License. Support for on-site training in MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) is provided; MOAB is reviewed periodically on-site.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric Behavioral Health experience is preferred; sending candidates without pediatric experience to management for approval is encouraged. Experience with de-escalation, physical restraints, medication passes, group facilitation, and documentation is required.
  • Float: Float rotation between pediatric and adult units may be required.
  • Additional Information: The facility is a 94-bed inpatient behavioral health center with separate pediatric and adult units. Patients include children (ages 5-18) and adults (18+), with common diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and suicidal ideation. The environment is locked but not for incarceration; patients are medically cleared before admission from emergency services. The facility is equipped for specialized therapies, including pet therapy and community gardens. Staffing includes support from psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, and security personnel. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Cerner. Scrub color is unrestricted but must be professional. The unit promotes scenario-based training and offers de-escalation support with an MOAB educator on-site.
