Description
Job Summary
The labor and delivery department nurse in Worthington, Minnesota, will provide care in a unit caring for obstetric, postpartum, well-newborn, and gynecologic surgical patients. The role involves managing obstetric triage, labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care, including procedures such as IV management, antibiotics administration, and short-term respiratory support. The nurse will work primarily in the Womens Center department, with opportunities for floating to general medical units based on census needs.
Job Details
- Shift Schedule: Twelve-hour shifts during nights, with work hours from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. The position requires a minimum of 36 hours per week, with weekend shifts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Required Qualifications: Valid licensure to submit in the state of Minnesota. A minimum of 2 years of experience interpreting fetal monitor strips, attending vaginal deliveries, and providing immediate newborn care and resuscitation. Certifications required include BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program). Additional requirements include familiarity with EPIC computer charting, OBIX fetal monitoring system, and Acudose medication dispensing.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care across Level 1 and Level 2 nursery settings. Ability to work in a fast-paced obstetric environment and adapt to floating assignments within units.
- Additional Information: New hire orientation includes safety training, emergency management, equipment competency, and charting instruction, typically lasting 2-3 days depending on experience. Clinicians must badge in and out at the facility and follow the hospital's scrub dress code (navy blue). Nurses are scheduled to ensure in-house staffing of at least two OB-trained staff members at all times, with weekend commitments as outlined.
