Job Summary:
The organization is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical (MS) Registered Nurse (RN) for a daytime assignment in Evansville, Indiana. This position involves providing high-quality patient care on a dedicated surgical floor, with a focus on trauma, neurological, and orthopedic patient populations. The role offers an opportunity to work within a teaching hospital setting, supporting both patient care and clinical education initiatives.
Job Details:
- Shift: 12-hour days, start time 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Schedule: Guaranteed minimum of 36 hours per week, with potential for 48 hours upon request
- Contract Length: 13 or 20 weeks, starting 09/07/2026
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact licensed RN, BLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS certification, and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience including at least 1 year in ortho/neuro/trauma care, with trauma level II experience. Recent EPIC charting experience is required, with a proficiency checkoff scheduled.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with chest tube/indwelling drain management, infusion drips (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), epidural management, PEGs/NGs, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH protocols, and wound care (packing and vacs).
- Patient Population: Trauma, orthopedic injuries (such as broken hips or femurs), neuro conditions (scheduled neck and back procedures, spine or rib fractures).
- Skillset: Strong neuro assessment skills, patient log rolling, application of assistive devices, Telemetry/12-lead EKG interpretation, and PIV insertions.
- Float Requirements: First float within skillset to nearby campuses; cross-campus float with a two-hour notice may occur. Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible.
- Additional Information: This role involves supporting a 44-bed surgical unit where staff and leadership value team cohesion. The unit is a teaching hospital that may require precepting students and new hires. Navy-blue scrubs are required; no logos of competing health systems or agencies. COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required. The unit guarantees set hours weekly, except during holidays when the unit may be closed.
- Interview Schedule: Available Monday through Friday, using MSP (Managed Service Provider) interviews.
