Job Summary
Step Down Nurse, West Virginia, is responsible for managing patients with acute neurological and surgical post-operative conditions in a dedicated neuro unit. The role involves providing specialized care in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on neurological disorders such as stroke, seizures, and postoperative spine surgeries. This position demands strong neuro experience and the ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Full-time night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with weekends and holidays rotated as needed, totaling at least 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, BLS Certification; minimum of 2 years of related neuro nursing experience; located outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; must have current unexpired drivers license; able to start by 08/31/2026.
  • Preferred Qualifications: ACLS and NIHSS certifications are preferred.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E units, with first priority.
  • Additional Information: The unit is a 20-bed neurosciences department with a patient ratio of 1:3 for step-down and 1:5-6 for floor patients. RNs are not required to titrate drips but should be familiar with common titratable medications, which are administered per physicians orders. RTs are available 24/7 for vent management without requiring vent experience from RNs. Telemetry is available, and RNs are responsible for verifying monitor techs strip readings. The unit operates on an Epic charting system.
  • Shifts & Rotations: Two shifts per 13-week contract; weekend day and night shifts are part of the schedule; travelers must be flexible.
  • Additional Notes: Scrub colors are any combination of white and royal blue. Orientation includes one shift on the unit.
