Job Summary:
A registered nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Unit care is sought for a healthcare organization located in Kearney, Nebraska. The position involves providing patient care in a 40-bed adult medical/surgical step down unit, focusing on conditions such as cardiac, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure. Job Details:

  • Location: Kearney, Nebraska
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, or 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM, with every other holiday working required
  • Start Date: 09/28/2026
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN in similar settings
  • Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Department: Step Down Unit with 40 beds and an average daily census of 24 patients
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 during day and night shifts
  • Patient Types: Adults with cardiac, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure diagnoses
  • Responsibilities: Managing titratable and set-rate drips (e.g., Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin), interpreting cardiac strips, troubleshooting high-flow oxygen equipment, and adhering to unit protocols
  • Additional Requirements: Competence in arterial lines, float flexibility to Med-Surg or ICU, adherence to dress code (Navy Blue), and participation in one-day orientation
  • Client policies: Candidates must comply with radius and scheduling policies, and submit upfront RTO requests of 7 days or less for the entire 13-week contract period
  • Other notes: Use of overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, bladder scanners, and a focus on patient satisfaction and communication. The unit primarily serves diverse cultural populations, including Hispanic and Somali patients.
