Description
Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in a healthcare facility environment. The role involves providing care to patients with conditions such as heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. RNs are expected to manage titratable drips, interpret telemetry strips, and collaborate with charge nurses and patient care techs to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced setting.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights shift, from 06:30 PM to 07:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Education/Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience in a similar acute care setting.
- Department: Step Down unit, with 22 beds, patient ratios of 1:4 and 1:10 depending on duties.
- Patient Population: Heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke.
- Responsibilities: Titration of medications such as Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro; interpretation of telemetry strips; troubleshooting respiratory equipment like CPAP; collaborating with charge nurses; float to ICU if appropriate and experienced; manage patient admits and discharges efficiently.
- Additional notes: This is a fast-paced unit requiring teamwork, a positive attitude, and patient-oriented care. RNs will be expected to read and interpret telemetry strips and manage various ventilator and respiratory equipment.
- Requirements: Candidates must have a valid drivers license (used to verify distance from the facility), and must comply with fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails. RTO (Request for Time Off) requests must be approved upfront; no additional RTO will be granted after submission.
- Float Policy: May float to ICU if appropriate and candidate has the required experience.
- Shift Notes: 12-hour night shifts, cyclic scheduling, with every other weekend and holiday requirements.
- Pre-screening and auto-offer: Includes a pass/fail exam during orientation, requiring at least a 90% score to pass.
