Description
Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor Nurse in a facility with 27 beds located in the area. The position is available for an immediate start and involves working with a diverse patient population including total joints, general medical/surgical cases, urology, cardiac, and other specialties. The role requires flexibility to float to ICU and Emergency Department as needed and supports addressing a variety of clinical needs with a focus on patient care excellence.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12-hour shift hours, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: RN certification, BLS certification; 2 years of minimum experience as a Registered Nurse; nursing home experience accepted; ability to work in a fast-paced environment with patient ratios of 1:5-6 during day shifts and 1:6-7 during night shifts
- Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification; previous Charge RN experience; willingness to be trained as Charge Nurse if not already experienced
- Skills required: Previous charge nurse experience preferred but not mandatory; familiarity with chest tubes, traches, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals, IV antibiotics, and Heparin infusions is advantageous; ability to interpret cardiac strips preferred for RN; ADLs, feeding, tray setup, answering call bells, V/S, blood sugars, patient ambulation, and range of motion exercises for Tech
- Support on the Unit: Charge nurse manages assignments; 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and centralized tele monitoring tech support the unit; candidates are expected to make two attempts to start their own IVs before seeking assistance; rapid response attended by in-house providers and staff nurses
- Charting System: Cerner
- Float: Float to ICU for Medical Surgical level patients and to Emergency Department for assistance as needed
- Orientation: General hospital orientation plus one shift on the unit
- Scheduling: Every other weekend rotation; travel pairs are allowed to work the same weekend
- On Call: Not required
- Holiday Expectations: Available for 2 out of 4 holidays as needed
- Approval of Time Off: Time off must be approved by the manager
