Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Nurse Educator specializing in diabetes education to support a 225-bed specialty care hospital located in the central region of Michigan's upper peninsula. The role involves providing diabetes education, consultation, and evaluating patient and program outcomes. The position requires delivering educational material tailored to diverse patient populations, including pediatric and adult patients across various age groups.
Job Details:
- Location: Marquette, Michigan
- Schedule: Days shift, 8 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Associate's degree in Nursing or Bachelor's degree in Dietetics; Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan or Registered Dietitian Certification; Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification; 1 year of relevant experience
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with diabetes education and patient education in a hospital setting; ability to work independently in a stressful environment; critical thinking skills
- Essential Functions:
- Independently develops, communicates, and implements patient teaching interventions
- Conducts educational sessions for inpatient and outpatient populations, adapting content to age and developmental needs
- Maintains diabetes supplies and provides backup support to staff
- Participates in orientation, training, and meetings as required
- Prepares reports related to patient education activities
- Populations Served: Neonate (30 days), Infant (1 year), Early Childhood (15 years), Late Childhood (513 years), Adolescent (1317 years), Young Adult (1730 years), Middle Adult (3060 years), Older Adult (60+ years)
- Additional Information: Orientation is bi-weekly. The position is located in a community with a high local rate, and candidates must reside 60 miles or greater from the facility to be considered travel.
