Description
Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a medical center located in Chicago, Illinois. This position involves providing specialized patient care for critically ill adult patients with multisystem organ failure, sepsis, cardiac conditions, neurological events, and post-operative recovery. The role requires a strong ICU background and the ability to work night shifts within a high-acuity environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification, at least 2 years of ICU experience, and resident or authorized to work within the state
- Preferred Qualifications: CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification
- Patient Population: Multi-system organ failure, DKA, sepsis, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pneumonia, AKI, CKD, post-cardiac surgery, ventilated and sedated patients, strokes, TPA administration, post-cardiac arrest management, impella and balloon pump support
- Support on the Unit: CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) may be available per unit, charge nurse manages patient assignments, RN handles all draws including arterial blood gases, support includes resource nurses, hospitalists, resident physicians, RTs, and nursing supervisors available 24/7, with virtual provider access during off hours
- Charting System/Equipment: EPIC (preferred), Alaris IV Pump, Pyxis, Phillips Monitors, Belfort mass transfusion system, Kreg verticalization beds, float to SICU and telemetry/MS units (first to float), orientation consists of two shifts of training
- Orientation: Two shifts of orientation, one in SICU
- Additional Notes: Scrub color is navy; parking options available through agency; proximity to public transportation via CTA Brown line; ability to approve time off through designated supervisor; no on-call required; overtime permitted only in urgent situations; holiday shifts include one summer and one winter shift, typically on eves leading into holidays
