Description

Job Summary:
Orthopedic Medical Surgical Nurse specializing in orthopedic care on a rotating shift schedule in a hospital setting. This role involves providing direct patient care on a Medical Surgical orthopedic unit, managing patients with a variety of diagnoses including spinal, cranial, and other orthopedic conditions. The position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

  • Location: Not specified
  • Shift: Rotating, 12-hour shifts, with scheduling requests entered via Kronos at least 2 weeks in advance for 4-week blocks; nights are typically scheduled in blocks.
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, minimum of 48 hours per week, including every-other-weekend, rotating holidays, and participation in holiday coverage as needed.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice, BLS (AHA) certification, NIHSS certification, minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system, current experience in a Medical Surgical Orthopedic unit, and familiarity with common orthopedic diagnoses and treatments.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit details include 21 beds, with 7 private and 7 semi-private rooms.
    • Ratios are approximately 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts.
    • Must have basic arrhythmia recognition skills; mindful of cardiac rhythms and emergency responses.
    • Telemonitoring system is active remotely.
    • No trauma team or in-house hospitalist expected; RT and pharmacy services are available 24/7.
    • Floor-specific orientation includes one shift with a preceptor, with learning modules and EPIC training.
    • Attendance is critical; multiple shifts can be canceled within the assignment period.
