Job Summary
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse specializing in critical care is needed at a Magnet & Teaching hospital with a Level I Trauma Center. This role involves recovering a diverse surgical patient population, including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, and transplant patients, among others. The position offers a fast-paced environment requiring high acuity critical care skills.
Job Details
- Certifications, Education, and Experience: BLS, ACLS certifications are required. Minimum of 2 years of PACU and critical care experience is necessary. Active MO or IL license, or eligibility for licensure, is required.
- Schedule: Dayshift, 10-hour shifts, 40 hours per week, starting 09/28/2026 and ending 12/28/2026.
- Responsibilities: Assist in recovery of post-surgical patients with complex needs including invasive monitoring, blood product administration, ventilated patients, and vasoactive drugs. Must be able to work with artificial airways, ICP monitoring, and transfusions. Prepare pre-op patients for surgery, including EKG rhythm analysis, blood draws, IV starts, and patient assessment.
- Additional Requirements: Must have at least 2 years of level I trauma ICU and PACU experience. Hardstop skills include experience with drains, vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, and recovery from general anesthesia. Night shift staff may need to learn pre-op patient work-up. The unit operates 24/7 with 38 bays, and the patient demographic includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
