Job Summary
Labor and Delivery Department Nurse in Tacoma, WA This position involves providing high-acuity care for obstetric patients, including those with complex conditions such as hypertension, preterm labor, and postpartum hemorrhage. The role requires managing labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care, ensuring recovery and safety for both mother and baby.

Job Details

  • Certifications: BLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN)
  • Education Requirements: 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years of obstetric/nursing experience in a similar setting
  • Location Requirements: Washington State license or eligible for licensure in WA
  • Experience Requirements: Minimum 3 years of obstetric nursing experience
  • Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum 48 hours per week
  • Advanced skills required: labor management, fetal monitoring interpretation, OR circulation, cervical assessments, second assist for newborns, charge nurse duties, and strong interpersonal skills for staff management and education
  • Additional responsibilities include assisting in OR, handling OB ED patients, and contributing to unit support with restocking and patient transport
  • Support staff include CNA 1, scrub techs, phlebotomists, and resource nurses.
  • Technology/Equipment used in the unit includes EMR systems (EPIC), fetal surveillance monitors, epidural pumps, and other NICU and OB-specific technology.
  • Orientation consists of hospital and unit training plus specific preceptorship, with a traditional orientation style.
  • Shift times are 7:00 am to 7:30 pm for day shift and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am for night shift, with schedule cycles in six-week blocks.
  • No mandatory call requirements; may pick up shifts as needed.
  • No floating except within the antepartum and postpartum units as needed.
  • The start date for this assignment is October 5, 2026, with an expected duration until January 9, 2027.
