Job Summary
Labor and Delivery (L&D) Specialist Location: unspecified. This position involves providing specialized care in a high-volume obstetric unit, managing high-risk deliveries, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes. The role requires skilled nursing in a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety and patient-centered care.
Job Details
- Position Description: The role involves working in a Labor and Delivery unit with 7 beds, 4 triage beds, 2 overflow beds, and 27 postpartum beds including a 5-bed nursery. The department handles approximately 3 births per day, with an emphasis on managing high-risk deliveries, substance withdrawal cases, and non-prenatal patients, many of whom speak Spanish. The unit utilizes FetalLink electronic fetal monitoring interfaced with Cerner EMR.
- Required Qualifications: Certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Basic Life Support (BLS); certification in fetal monitoring through the Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) at intermediate or advanced level; minimum of 3 years of experience in labor and delivery nursing; and license to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Additional Information: Candidates must have 2-3 years of experience; nurses will circulate during cesarean sections and assist with deliveries. The unit operates 24/7 with in-house obstetric and neonatal specialist coverage available on call within 30 minutes. Nurses are expected to float between Labor and Delivery and postpartum units as needed, with specific orientation provided over three shifts. Call is optional but preferred.
