Job Summary
The Surgical Technician II specializes in supporting surgical teams within the ORT (Surgical Technician/Operating Room Tech) specialty, providing essential patient care during surgical procedures. This role involves assisting surgeons with instrumentation, preparing the operating room, and ensuring aseptic techniques are maintained in all surgery environments.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Rotating shifts, 10 hours per shift, minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited surgical technology program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or military service; current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; 0+ years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of normal/abnormal anatomy and physiology; ability to work independently; ability to provide leadership; skill in critical thinking; and effective communication skills.
  • Handles specimens and medications using correct technique according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Assists with restraining uncooperative or combative patients in a safe manner.
  • Ensures equipment is functioning properly and reports any issues immediately.
  • Maintains aseptic technique, actively monitoring for breaches, and corrects promptly.
  • Prepares the surgical field by opening supplies and verifying readiness for scheduled cases.
  • Performs surgical counts prior to and during procedures and after closing the incision.
  • Assists with room turnover, surgical support, and indirect patient care activities such as transportation.
  • Adheres to all policies for safe identification and handling of specimens and medications.
  • Requests instruments and supplies based on procedure needs and case progress.
  • Tests equipment before use and ensures all materials are available and in working order.
  • On call required; some weekends and nights possible.
