ICU Surgical Nurse Intensive Care Unit Surgical Location not specified. This role involves providing specialized nursing care for patients in a busy Level 1 Trauma ICU with a focus on surgical and trauma cases. The position requires a skilled professional with experience in critical care settings, capable of managing complex patient conditions and working in a high-acuity environment.

Job Details

  • Position Description: The ICU Surgical Nurse skillfully manages care for critically ill patients with diagnoses such as liver/kidney transplants, vascular surgeries, ENT cancers, abdominal surgeries, mastectomies, and more. Responsibilities include early recognition of patient condition changes, clear communication and escalation with healthcare providers, and critical thinking skills. Experience with CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilators, various drains, and surgical sites is essential.
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; Education: RN license; Experience: 2 years minimum in a critical care setting; Location: Work in a busy Level 1 Trauma ICU; Schedule: Shift Time is Days, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Additional Information: The unit operates 24/7 with an in-house intensivist and hospitalist staff. RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips (Phillips monitors) and be open to floating to other ICU units within the hospital, with priority given to float to other ICU's within the hospital. The unit has a nursing staff ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on patient acuity, with the ability to handle high patient acuity and complex cases. Orientation includes 2 shifts; staffing adheres strictly to safety and operational protocols.
