Job Summary
Labor and Delivery (L&D) Nurse Location: Ohio. This position involves providing comprehensive patient care within the labor and delivery department, demonstrating expertise in performing head-to-toe assessments, pain management, medication administration, and patient education. The role emphasizes delivering age-appropriate care, fostering a respectful environment, and collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure maternal and neonatal safety and well-being.

- Position Description: Demonstrates ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on patients and reassessments as per policy. Demonstrates ability to assess and reassess pain using appropriate evaluation methods. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques and educates patient/family on pain management. Demonstrates ability to develop and revise plan of care as indicated by the patient response to treatment and evaluate plan daily for effectiveness. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over life span and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication errors. Formulates and activates teaching plans based on identified learning needs. Evaluates effectiveness of learning including family in teaching as appropriate. Demonstrates ability to perform services requiring technical and manual skills. Demonstrates ability to perform services within the scope of licensure and seeks guidance and direction on issues beyond scope of knowledge and responsibility. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psycho-social, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual patient/family needs. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Interacts professionally with patient/family. Involves patient/family in formulation of plan of treatment. Performs all aspects of patient care establishing and maintaining a safe environment for patients and families to reduce the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs. Communicates appropriately and clearly to unit director, co-workers, and physicians. Maintains good working relationships within the unit and with other departments. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family. Communicates with Care Coordination regarding in-hospital and post-discharge plans and needs. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations. Performs and maintains annual competencies. Performs and maintains annual competency for bedside blood glucose waived testing.
- Required Qualifications: BSN degree preferred. COVID vaccinated, provide vaccination card. Active Ohio or compact license at the time of submission. Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) including BLS, ACLS, NRP, active at the time of start. Postpartum and nursery experience required. One year of labor and delivery experience required.
- Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Additional Information: Submission requirements include certifications through AHA (active at time of start), Ohio or compact license, and proof of COVID vaccination.
