Job Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Nurse, located in the healthcare facility, is responsible for providing high-quality perioperative nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role involves coordinating patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring compliance with all clinical standards and safety protocols. The OR Nurse will support a team dedicated to patient safety and positive surgical outcomes.
Job Details
- Certifications, Education Requirements, Degree Requirements, Location Requirements, and Years of Experience: Current New York State Registered Nurse License, BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross), Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, with 0 to 3 years of nursing experience.
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, evenings, 36 hours per week, with rotating scheduling.
- Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, and evaluating patient care in the operating room; educating patients and families about perioperative procedures; administering medications safely in accordance with facility policies; and supporting effective resource utilization.
- Utilize knowledge of pharmacology and surgical procedures to deliver safe and efficient care.
- Participate actively in professional development, continuing nursing education, and unit governance activities.
- Additional tasks include performing duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned; contributing to the Clinical Ladder Program as expertise develops; and providing mentorship to new staff and students.
- Skills required include collaboration, communication, judgment, organizational skills, planning, problem-solving, and a focus on safety and quality.
- Preferred qualifications include previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting and relevant skills certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC.
- The role involves working in a dynamic environment with possible call shifts, including one to two shifts per week.
