Description

Job Summary
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse Location: unspecified. This is a highly dynamic position within a Level I Trauma Center that manages a broad range of acute and trauma cases. The role involves providing expert nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, adhering to established clinical protocols and maintaining patient safety and comfort throughout each shift.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Shifts are 12 hours, with start times varying from 07:00 to 19:00, and a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid driver's license; Certifications include BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), and TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course). A minimum of 2 years of ER nursing experience is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification is preferred.
  • Additional Information:
    • The ER includes 20 beds, with designated trauma, observation, hallway, and fast track areas.
    • Must be able to float to the observation unit and Freestanding Creighton ER at least once a week.
    • Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips.
    • The unit is staffed with physicians, mid-level providers, charge nurses, nurse aides, EMTs, and patient sitters.
    • Ratios vary by area, such as 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in observation, and 1:1 in ICU/trauma.
    • The environment is high-paced with a focus on trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and stroke management.
    • Shifts include weekend and holiday work as needed, with onboarding consisting of 1 week of initial training plus department-specific shifts.
    • The candidate must adhere to hospital policies, including a fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails, and pass/fail skill exams during orientation.
