Description

Job Summary:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) position is located within a specialized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit focusing on pediatric open heart patients. The role involves providing expert care to critically ill children with congenital heart conditions, utilizing advanced cardiopulmonary management techniques. The RN will work in a dynamic environment with a focus on building a dedicated pediatric open heart program, requiring high-level clinical skills and experience in pediatric cardiovascular critical care.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Rotating shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid healthcare professional license in the state of practice or within a compact licensing region; BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification; minimum of 3 years of pediatric intensive care experience, with at least 5 years in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care; pediatric open heart surgery and congenital heart disease experience, including familiarity with PAP/CVP/IABP/ECMO/CVVD or CRRT/Chest tubes/Arterial lines; ability to take fresh open-heart patients directly from the operating room; experience managing patients in a 1:1 care setting initially, transitioning to 1:2 as patients stabilize.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with pediatric CVICU with congenital heart surgery patients; familiarity with pediatric cardiac devices and post-operative care.
  • Additional Information: The position involves caring for pediatric patients immediately post-surgery in a 5-bed CVICU facility, with approximately 3-4 cases weekly. The role requires directly managing stable patients and providing specialized critical care within a PICU environment. The unit is expanding, aiming to develop its pediatric cardiac program further.
