Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) opportunity in a healthcare facility setting. The role involves floating across multiple units including PCU, Telemetry, Medical, Surgical, Observation, and Overflow units to meet patient care needs. The RN will be responsible for caring for patients with diverse diagnoses such as stroke, chest pain, arrhythmias, post-surgical care, and respiratory failure, utilizing advanced assessment skills, cardiac drips, and telemetry interpretation within a fast-paced hospital environment.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, with clock-in starting at 06:53 and clock-out at 07:23. Scheduling is managed by an administrative assistant; flexibility to work across units is expected.
• Required Qualifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, 1-2 years of experience with neuro assessments and cardiac drips (including cardizem, amio, and heparin), prior travel experience, and Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system proficiency.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience in floating across units, reading and interpreting electrocardiogram (ECG) strips, performing EKGs, and responding to telemetry monitors.
• Float: Float rotation may be required among PCU, Observation, Overflow, Medical, Surgical, and occasionally ICU or Emergency Department units, depending on hospital needs.
• Additional Information:
  • Patient ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on the unit and patient acuity, with typical ratios of 1:4.
  • Patient population includes stroke risk assessments, chest pain, arrhythmias, post-operative recovery, altered mental status, and sepsis.
  • The unit utilizes RT equipment such as CPAP and high flow oxygen; familiarity is preferred.
  • Telemetry/monitor techs are present; RN staff are required to read and interpret telemetry strips and perform EKGs, conveying changes to physicians.
  • Weekend shifts (minimum of 4 weekends within 6 weeks) and holiday work (1 major and 1 minor) are expected.
  • On-call responsibilities are not required.
  • Nurses must wear navy scrubs, and a three-shift orientation across different units plus general facility orientation is provided.
  • Candidates must be flexible with their work locations and scheduling.
