Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit Float Nurse Location unspecified. This position involves providing ICU nursing coverage across multiple units, including trauma, cardiothoracic, and neuro ICUs. The role requires adaptability to float among various hospital ICU settings, maintaining high acuity patient care standards, and adhering to unit-specific protocols.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Valid RN license; minimum of 2 years of ICU experience; certifications include BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support). Experience with NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) is preferred but not required. Must have ICU float pool experience and demonstrate competency in sterile procedure skills, such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
• Preferred Qualifications: Level I trauma center experience and teaching hospital background are preferred due to patient acuity and complexity.
• Weekend Requirement: Four weekends shifts every four weeks, with Saturday and Sunday scheduled.
• Holidays: Holiday shifts will be required based on unit needs.
• Shift Schedule: 7:00 AM 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM 7:30 AM; schedules are set four weeks in advance and may change with two weeks' notice.
• Call: No scheduled call; standby response time is 30 minutes if on standby due to low census.
• Equipment & Responsibilities: Ability to read tele strips, manage all respiratory support devices (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen), tele monitors, and use GE equipment. Reports are completed at the bedside with a second-person skin assessment within the first four hours of shift.
• Orientation: Two shifts of orientation are provided, with a third shift as needed.
• Float Pool Experience: Must be able to function independently across all ICU areas, including Tower 2, Tower 4, and Neuro ICU, as well as MedSurg/Tele units at sister campuses. Understanding of float requirements must be documented during prescreening.
• Additional Notes: All patient reports are performed bedside; hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The staffing office communicates assignments via texting service or phone call, with shift start at 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM.
