Job Summary
A Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse is needed on a night shift at a healthcare organization. The position involves providing specialized patient care in a step-down unit, with responsibilities including managing patients with complex medical conditions, titrating pressors, and floating to various hospital units when necessary. The role requires adherence to hospital protocols and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Required Qualifications: Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) are required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the AHA and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification are preferred. Candidates must be able to titrate pressors. Level 1 trauma experience is preferred; if the candidate has no prior travel experience, level 1 trauma experience will be required. Epic electronic health record experience is mandatory. Prior to the assignment, a passed pass/fail test will be administered on day one, and Relias practice tests will be available via Relias. Candidates must have been separated from the facility for a minimum of 6 months if currently employed there in a permanent, per diem, or contractual capacity. The candidate should be available for weekly start dates, typically on Mondays.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Level 1 trauma experience, ACLS-AHA certification, NIHSS certification.
  • Additional Information: The role involves working in ratios of 1:3-5 and floating to emergency department holds, inpatient holds, post-anesthesia care units, and other boarding units. Floating occurs in 4-hour blocks but is rare. Candidates must be able to work independently and follow SOPs.
