Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical (MS) on a hospital unit. This role involves providing care for patients undergoing procedures such as total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urology, abdominal surgeries, and other medical overflow cases. The position requires adaptability to various patient needs, including post-operative care, early ambulation, and managing common acute conditions.

Job Details:

• Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
• Certifications Required: BLS Certification.
• Education and Experience Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an RN.
• Schedule: Shifts from 0700 to 1930 and 1900 to 0730; schedule managed by the organization, with considerations for rotation and block scheduling if needed.
• Unit Notes: The unit has a bed capacity of 30 with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 at night.
• Patient Population and Common Diagnoses: Patients include those with total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urology procedures, abdominal surgeries (laparoscopic appendectomy, bowel resection), bariatric cases, and medical overflow.
• Experience and Skills: Prefer candidates with surgical experience, post-operative care, early ambulation, and an ability to work with first-time travelers.
• Drips and Treatments: Occasional use of titratable drips such as heparin, PCA pumps, TPN; RN responsible only for troubleshooting nasal cannula, with respiratory therapy handling treatments.
• Additional Responsibilities: Bedside shift reports are expected, and the culture is described as close-knit and supportive.
• Floating and Additional Requirements: Float to medical and telemetry units; assist with strip interpretation; respond to unit needs as required.
• Dress Code: Scrubs provided, any color.
• Other Notes: No GYN patients; unit does not require RNs to read strips; RN does not read their own strips. The organization emphasizes a strong team culture.
• Licenses and Certifications: BSN not required; license to submit is needed.
• Start Date: 10/19/2026
• End Date: 01/18/2027
• Additional Notes: RTO (Request for Time Off) requests must be made upfront and are limited; candidates may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the organization. The unit operates under Union or hospital policy with a cancellation policy of four shifts per contract, three if under 13 weeks.
