Job Summary
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Open Heart This position involves providing specialized nursing care for a high-acuity patient population of children with congenital heart differences who have undergone surgery or require medical management. The role requires delivering advanced critical care in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center within a teaching hospital environment.
Job Details
- Position description: RN in Pediatric CVICU at a facility with 247 licensed beds, a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, and a Certified Stroke Center.
- Required Qualifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS certifications, pediatric cardiac ICU experience in a similar facility for acuity, and current licensure.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week, with work every other weekend or as needed, including holidays.
- Additional Information: Experience with fresh open heart post-op patients, transplant, and devices such as Aquadex, Impella, and ECMO is required. Ability to float to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and handle high-acuity pediatric cardiac patients is discussed during interview; orientation includes a two-day departmental session.
- Support within the department: One health care technician daily, unit secretary every shift, and resource nurse floating as needed.
- Technology and equipment: EPIC electronic medical record system, Alaris infusion pumps, Phillips monitors, Alaris Med dispenser, and bedside monitoring.
