Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Room (ER) position supporting a high-volume, 32-bed emergency department with a 1:4 patient ratio. The role provides care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a Level II trauma setting, with responsibilities including emergency response, triage, cardiac monitoring, trauma care, and management of complex medical and behavioral health conditions.

Job Details

• Schedule: Day shift, 7:00 AM7:00 PM, three 12-hour shifts per week, totaling 36 hours per week. Weekend coverage is every other weekend.
• Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of emergency department nursing experience.
  • Active Illinois Registered Nurse license required at submission.
  • Required certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Experience in a combined adult and pediatric emergency department and Level II trauma setting.
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multisystem organ dysfunction or failure, and obtaining 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Experience with blood product administration, central line care and management, phlebotomy, and starting and maintaining intravenous lines.
  • Experience administering continuous intravenous paralytics, continuous intravenous sedation, emergency medications, intravenous vasopressors, and procedural sedation.
  • Experience caring for patients with cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), increased intracranial pressure monitoring, neurotrauma, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.
  • Experience with orthopedic trauma, pediatric emergencies, acute psychosis, drug overdose, violent behavior, psychiatric holds, suicidal patients, respiratory emergencies, ventilated patients, chest tubes, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP), arterial blood gas interpretation, and intubation assistance.
  • Experience with gunshot wounds, traumatic amputations, isolation precautions, personal protective equipment (PPE), triage, telemetry interpretation, and ventilators.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge experience and experience with electronic charting systems.
• Additional Information: The emergency department has 32 beds and an average daily census of 120 patients. The role includes care for patients with stroke, ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), sepsis, trauma, abdominal pain, respiratory conditions, chest pain, fever, and headache. Floating within the clinicians scope may be required to meet operational needs. Royal blue scrubs are required.
