Job Summary

Step Down Unit position providing care for medical, neurosurgical, cardiac, and post-catheterization patients in an acute-care setting. The role requires registered nursing expertise in titratable medication infusions and noninvasive respiratory support, with collaboration across the clinical team to support safe, effective patient care.

Job Details

• Schedule: Day shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 48 hours per week. Weekend requirements include four weekends in a six-week schedule; holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday.
• Required Qualifications: Minimum of two years of experience; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification; experience titrating medication infusions; experience managing continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP); ability to support patients requiring high-flow oxygen and troubleshoot related equipment.
• Additional Information: The unit provides care for medical, neurosurgical, cardiac, and post-catheterization patients, including patients with transradial compression bands. Common titratable infusions include nicardipine and diltiazem. Registered nurses are expected to interpret their own telemetry strips, troubleshoot respiratory equipment, and may take a patient assignment while serving as charge nurse. Unit-specific orientation consists of one to two shifts. Navy scrubs are required.
