Interim Clinical Nurse Coordinator - Orthopedics
Location: Hermiston, Oregon, United States

Overview
Seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Coordinator to support orthopedic acute care services by coordinating daily clinical operations, promoting evidence-based practice, and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care across the continuum. This role provides clinical leadership, supports staff development, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes, safety, and patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient flow, admissions/discharges, and daily staffing to meet unit and patient needs.
- Provide clinical oversight for orthopedic patient care including post-operative monitoring, pain management, mobility progression, neurovascular assessment, and prevention of complications.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor; support orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education.
- Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, therapy services, case management, and pharmacy to support care plans and discharge readiness.
- Promote patient safety initiatives, infection prevention, fall prevention, and compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement, chart audits, and performance metrics (e.g., LOS, readmissions, patient satisfaction).
- Assist with escalation and resolution of clinical concerns, family communication, and service recovery.
- May provide direct patient care as needed and respond to changes in patient condition.
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience; orthopedic/surgical or med-surg experience strongly preferred.
- Prior charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical leadership experience required.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
- ACLS preferred (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
- Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic post-operative care, pain control modalities, mobility/rehab coordination, and DVT prevention.
- Strong communication, delegation, critical thinking, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call as assigned.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN preferred.
- Specialty certification (e.g., CMSRN, ONC) preferred.
- Experience with throughput, staffing coordination, and quality/safety initiatives.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced acute care setting with frequent interruptions and time-sensitive decision-making.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; lift/assist patients and equipment with appropriate support and safe patient handling practices.
- Ability to wear required PPE and comply with vaccination/screening requirements as applicable.
