Essential duties and responsibilities of this position are described below and are subject to change by
management, as may be necessitated by changes in business needs, contract requirements, accommodation
requests or other reasons.
Position Overview
Provide shift leader responsibilities overseeing nursing operations for incarcerated patients. Work under the
direction of Director of Nursing and/or Nursing supervisor and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to
identify, assess and respond to a wide range of physical, psychological and social needs of the patient.
Education/Credentials/Experience
• Must hold valid RN license in practicing state.
• Must show current tuberculosis documentation, must be appropriately certified in first aid,
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS), and automated external defibrillator
(AED) use
• Must be able to pass a background investigation and obtain agency security clearance where applicable.
• Prior experience providing nursing care and working with a high degree of autonomy is required.
• Experience in a correctional environment is preferred.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
• Guide and support other nurses, delegating assignments and managing workflow
• Oversee patient admissions, discharges and overall efficiency
• Address urgent issues, de-escalates conflicts and ensure patient needs are met
• Participate in training of new nurses and provide guidance to less experienced staff
• Monitors supplies, medications and equipment
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to provide necessary psychiatric nursing care
• Develop, implement, evaluate and revise individualized treatment plans
• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the
patient providing first level of support and clinical expertise stepping in to help with patient care as needed
• Coordinate care closely with security staff while maintaining a positive, collaborative relationship
• Acquire and maintain current clinical knowledge and skills and professional standards
• Identify and maintain professional boundaries to preserve the integrity of the therapeutic process and
relationship
• Proactive in performance improvement activities as demonstrated by participating in the Continuous Quality
Improvement (CQI) program (peer review; record reviews; membership on the CQI committee as requested)
and modifying clinical practices based on CQI recommendations
• Ensure compliance with all facility and Company policies, Federal and State laws, regulations, and
guidelines

sitting, bending, stooping, and carrying; repetitive physical activity; repetitive mental activity such as
checking entries in a report, etc.
• Must be able to lift, carry, or push weight up to 40 pounds; which may include patients, medicine carts, etc.
• Must be able to respond quickly to emergency situations within his/her scope of practice.
• May be required to work throughout a large facility, grouping of facilities, or travel between
multiple facilities.
• Potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials, including but not limited to: blood
and blood borne pathogens, infectious/communicable diseases, and physical injury from patients.
