Position Overview

The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides clinical nutrition services in a correctional setting, ensuring incarcerated individuals receive appropriate, evidence-based dietary care. This role focuses on assessing nutritional needs, developing individualized meal plans, and working closely with medical and food service staff to promote health and manage chronic conditions within the correctional population.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct nutrition assessments and develop individualized care plans based on medical, cultural, and dietary needs.
• Monitor patients with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, renal disease) and provide ongoing dietary counseling.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and food service staff to implement therapeutic diets and ensure menu compliance with nutritional standards.
• Provide nutrition education to patients and staff as needed.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and patient progress in compliance with facility policies and healthcare regulations.
• Support food service operations to meet safety, sanitation, and correctional guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with state, federal, and correctional healthcare standards.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential with state licensure (as applicable).
• Prior experience in clinical nutrition; correctional or institutional experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and special dietary requirements.
• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a secure and structured correctional environment.
