Shift: Night Shift (4x12-Hour shifts: 18:45 – 07:15)
Scheduling Type: Block Scheduling
Hours Per Week: 40
Float Requirement: Yes (May be floated to sister units: West 2, West 3, and Observation unit)
Local Policy: Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (Locals not accepted)
Charting System: EPIC (Hard Requirement)
Role and Unit Overview:
This is a high-acuity, mixed unit caring for PCU, MS Tele, and Medical-Surgical patients. Ratios are adjusted based on patient acuity. The successful candidate will primarily work the night shift, managing a patient ratio of 1:7. Weekend coverage is required (Every Other Weekend).
Patient Diagnoses include: Surgical (pre/post ENT, General, Trauma, Ortho) and overflow medical patients.
CRITICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Must have PCU/IMC (Intermediate Care) experience within the last 3 years.
Unit Size: 25 Beds, 12 Rooms. Daily Census is approximately 24.
Interdisciplinary Support: PT, Respiratory Services, Interpretation, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy, Rapid Response Teams.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Registered Nurse experience.
- PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years is MANDATORY.
- Previous charge experience and experience in a Teaching Hospital or Trauma Level I/II setting are preferred.
- Travel experience is not required (first-time travelers are accepted).
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
Required Skills Proficiency
Candidates must be proficient in a wide array of high-acuity skills, including:
- Cardiac/Vascular: Interpretation and Management of dysrhythmias, Post MI care, Titration of Insulin and Heparin drips, PCA, Thrombolytic Agents, Management of Cardiac Drips (no titration).
- Respiratory: External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Interpretation of ABGs, Tracheostomy Management, Chest Tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac).
- IV Access: Accessing/Managing Ports, Central line care/management, PICC line management, Blood Product Administration, Starting and maintaining IVs.
- Other: Wound Care/Wound Vac, Isolation Precautions, Feeding tube care, Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI), Renal failure, CVA, Seizure disorders, Substance Withdrawal, Ortho Trauma, Mastectomy, and Surgical Drains.
