Description
Shift: Nights 1845-0715
Hours: 36 or 48 per week
RTO: 7 days max
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Float Requirement: Yes (may be floated to sister units: West 2, West 3, Observation Unit)
Unit Details:
This is a mixed acuity unit caring for PCU, Med-Surg Telemetry, and general Med-Surg patients. Patients include surgical pre/post-op, ENT, trauma, ortho, and overflow medical diagnoses. Rare pediatric patients may be present; travelers will only be assigned if experienced.
Patient Ratios:
- Days & Weekends: 1:3–5
- Nights: 1:3–6
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience
- First-time travelers accepted
- PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years is required
- Scrubs: Any solid color
Skills & Experience Required:
- MS/Tele, Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Interpretation & management of dysrhythmias
- Post-MI care, IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips
- Feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, renal failure care
- Central line care/management, peripheral line care, PICC line management
- Blood product administration, phlebotomy, starting IVs
- Heparin & cardiac drips (management & titration), PCA, thrombolytic agents
- CVA, seizure disorders, substance withdrawal
- Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, traction, mastectomy
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy care
- Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
- Interpretation of ABGs
Certifications Required:
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Preferred Certifications / Skills:
- PALS
- TCAR
Additional Notes:
- Travelers must be flexible to float to sister units
- Mixed-acuity unit; ratios adjusted by patient acuity
