Description
Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN)
Location: Ohio
Schedule: Straight nights, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
Shift Details: Every other weekend & holiday rotation; float to Postpartum as needed
Assignment Type: 13-week contract
Hours: 36 hours per week (not guaranteed; may be low censused up to one 12-hour shift per pay period)
On-Call: Per unit needs
Short Description
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
- Straight nights (7p–7:30a), every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Float to Postpartum as needed
- Active Ohio RN License required
- BLS and NRP (AHA only) required
- NICU/Level II SCN training preferred
- On-call as required by the unit
Position Overview
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) provides exceptional, patient-centered care to mothers and newborns throughout all stages of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery. This role requires a compassionate and skilled clinician who thrives in a fast-paced environment and collaborates effectively with an interdisciplinary care team.
Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Care
- Conduct comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments during labor, delivery, and recovery
- Monitor vital signs, fetal heart tones, and labor progression
- Administer medications and labor-related interventions as ordered
- Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, and postpartum expectations
Labor & Delivery Support
- Assist during all types of deliveries, including vaginal, assisted, and cesarean
- Provide continuous support and comfort measures during labor
- Operate and monitor medical equipment such as fetal monitors and IV pumps
- Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies
Postpartum & Neonatal Care
- Provide immediate postpartum care and monitor for complications
- Support breastfeeding and newborn care education
- Perform initial newborn assessments and assist with neonatal resuscitation when required
Collaboration & Documentation
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and pediatric teams
- Maintain accurate, detailed documentation in the EMR
- Adhere to all hospital policies, infection control standards, and safety procedures
Qualifications
- License: Active Ohio RN License (required)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years recent L&D experience (required)
- Certifications:
- BLS – American Heart Association (required)
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required)
- Preferred: NICU or Level II SCN training
