Job Title
Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Unit Information
Unit: PICU (High Acuity)
Start Date: 1/5 ONLY
Shift: 3×12 variable — must be fully flexible for days or nights
Case Types / Unit Summary:
High-acuity pediatric unit caring for:
- Trauma and injury
- Respiratory failure
- Shock and multi-system organ failure
- Poisonings
- Near drownings
- Meningitis
- Post-op cardiac surgical care
- Neurosurgery
Functions at the standard level of PICU nursing practice.
Ratios:
- 1:1–2 depending on acuity
Floating:
- Float within scope
- May float to CVPICU & NICU
- No floating to sister facilities
Requirements
Licensure
- CA RN license
- Pending CA license accepted only with ETA of posting
Experience
- Minimum 2 full years of recent, independent PICU experience
- PICU experience must be within the last year
- Travel experience preferred, but strong 1st-time travelers accepted
- Ventilator experience required
- Experience with multiple monitors including CVP and EKG
Certifications
- BLS
- PALS
- Flu shot required
Charting
- Epic
Special Notes
- Modules not billable
- Parking: Free traveler parking
- Scrub Color: Any color except black (reserved for ED)
Weekend Requirements
Must be available for full flexibility.
Depends on scheduled shift type:
- Day Shift: 4 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) per schedule
- Night Shift: 5 weekend shifts (Fri/Sat) per schedule
- 1 full weekend off per 4-week schedule
On-Call Requirements
- No on-call required
Locals
- Locals not accepted
RTO Restrictions
- Maximum 6 days RTO
Guaranteed Hours
- Hours guaranteed after call-off policy has been met
