Job Summary
As a Neuro ICU Registered Nurse, you’ll provide expert care to patients with critical neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and post-surgical neurosurgical cases. You will be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team that values precision, communication, and continuous learning.
Your responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, timely intervention, and constant advocacy for your patients. You’ll use cutting-edge technology and evidence-based practices to deliver the highest standard of neurocritical care.
Core Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions.
- Perform the nursing process — assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation — tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
- Monitor, assess, and manage hemodynamic and neurological status, including intracranial pressure monitoring and ventilator management.
- Administer medications, including sedation, vasoactive infusions, and anticonvulsants, following unit protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and support staff to ensure seamless, coordinated care.
- Respond to emergencies quickly and effectively, using advanced critical care protocols.
- Support patients’ families through education, updates, and emotional reassurance.
- Participate in shared governance, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing (BSN/MSN) preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Single State or Compact).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred (or to be obtained within 6 months).
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of ICU or Neurocritical Care experience preferred.
- Strong background in acute and complex patient care environments.
Skills:
- Proficient in critical thinking, assessment, and intervention in high-stress situations.
- Exceptional teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
- Competent in EHR documentation and clinical technology.
- Committed to maintaining a culture of safety, empathy, and professional integrity.
