Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Clinical Nurse, Perioperative/ASC is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals who deliver high-quality, safe, and compassionate patient care in the ambulatory surgery and perioperative setting.
The RN practices within a professional framework guided by the organization’s Nursing Practice Model, Shared Governance structure, and evidence-based standards. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the full nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice to deliver individualized, patient-centered care.
- Provide relationship-based care that reflects respect for diversity, patient preferences, and cultural values.
- Partner with patients and families through clear communication, bedside updates, interdisciplinary rounds, and shared decision-making.
- Deliver clinical care according to current practice standards and perioperative safety protocols.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinate and document safe, quality care using the professional nursing model and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
- Participate in team huddles, case reviews, and process improvement activities.
- Support recruitment, retention, and mentorship of nursing staff and other team members.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Complete all initial and ongoing competency assessments and required education.
- Serve as a mentor or preceptor for nurses, students, or other clinical staff to promote professional growth.
- Engage in shared governance and participate in system-wide nursing councils or quality initiatives.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Support continuous improvement by integrating evidence-based practice and current research into clinical decision-making.
- Participate in data collection, outcome tracking, and initiatives to enhance patient safety and care quality.
- Adhere to all regulatory, accreditation, and policy standards, including patient safety goals and compliance requirements.
Resources and Support
- Manage and optimize use of human, material, and technological resources to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
- Collaborate with care managers, surgeons, and anesthesia teams to plan care and achieve positive outcomes.
- Proactively contribute to the development of clinical protocols and best practices for perioperative services.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required (Diploma or Associate Degree).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current, active RN license in the State of Georgia (or Compact License as applicable).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; instructor certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of direct patient care nursing experience required.
- Prior perioperative, ambulatory surgery, or critical care experience preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
- Critical thinking and decision-making ability under pressure.
- Proficiency in clinical technology and electronic health records (EHR).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
